Mission:
The mission of the Missouri State Board of Nursing is to protect the public by development and enforcement of state laws governing the safe practice of nursing.
Function:
The Missouri State Board of Nursing protects the public; licenses by examination, endorsement, and renewal; regulates the quality of nursing education; disciplines the licenses of nurses who violate the Nursing Practice Act; and determines the scope of practice for licensed individuals.

Compensation: Members receive a per diem not to exceed $50 for each day devoted to the affairs of the board and reimbursement for realized and necessary expenses.
Member Requirements: Two of the five registered professional nurses shall hold a graduate degree in nursing, and at least one of the professional nurse members shall represent nursing practice. Membership on the board shall include representatives with expertise in each level of educational programs the graduates of which are eligible to apply for licensure such as practical, diploma, associate degree, and baccalaureate.
